Background of the Study:
Indigenous dietary habits in Okitipupa Local Government are deeply intertwined with the community’s cultural heritage and environmental resources. Traditional food systems, which emphasize the use of locally sourced ingredients and time-honored cooking methods, have long been credited with promoting nutritional well-being and disease prevention (Oluseyi, 2023). However, rapid urbanization and the influx of processed foods have introduced significant challenges to maintaining these healthy dietary practices (Ibrahim, 2024). This study investigates how indigenous dietary practices affect public health, examining their role in preventing lifestyle diseases and enhancing community resilience. The research further explores the potential of traditional diets as models for sustainable nutritional practices in modern public health strategies (Oluseyi, 2023). By integrating nutritional science with cultural studies, the investigation aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between traditional food habits and health outcomes in the region (Ibrahim, 2024).

Statement of the Problem:
The shift from indigenous dietary habits to processed foods in Okitipupa has led to increased public health challenges, including rising incidences of lifestyle-related diseases. The loss of traditional food practices threatens both cultural heritage and community health (Ibrahim, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To analyze indigenous dietary habits and their nutritional benefits.

  2. To assess the impact of dietary transitions on public health.

  3. To recommend strategies for promoting traditional diets.

Research Questions:

  1. What are the key components of indigenous dietary habits in Okitipupa?

  2. How do these diets affect public health outcomes?

  3. What measures can support the preservation of healthy traditional diets?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Indigenous dietary habits contribute positively to public health.

  2. The adoption of processed foods negatively impacts nutritional outcomes.

  3. Educational interventions can promote the retention of traditional diets.

Significance of the Study:
This study highlights the importance of indigenous dietary practices for public health. It offers insights for nutrition policy and community education programs aimed at reducing diet-related health issues (Oluseyi, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
Limited to the appraisal of indigenous dietary habits and their impact on public health in Okitipupa Local Government, Ondo State.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Indigenous Dietary Habits: Traditional food practices inherent to a community.

  2. Public Health: The overall health and well-being of a population.

  3. Nutritional Benefits: Positive health outcomes derived from dietary practices.
